DETROIT (WWJ) -- A man is in police custody after an alleged dispute on Detroit's west side overnight ended in gunfire, with his 7-year-old daughter struck and hospitalized.
Police say they received a report early Thursday morning that an argument between a couple had boiled over and led to gunfire at a home on Appoline Street, near Chicago and Meyers Road on the city's northwest side.
The girl's mother was driving away from the scene some time around 1:30 a.m. Thursday with her young daughter in the car, when the man began firing several shots at the vehicle.
The girl was hit by a bullet and taken to a nearby hospital. She was said to be in stable condition.
After firing shots, the father, whose age and identity have not been released, barricaded himself inside the home. After more than an hour of police negotiations, the man surrendered himself to police without incident.
Detroit police are still investigating the shooting.
