MT. CLEMENS (WWJ) – Sunday marks 21 years since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks that rocked the country.
It’s a somber day for Americans as we remember those lost in the attacks, and there will be a pair of Fallen Heroes memorials in Macomb and Oakland Counties on Sunday to honor first responders who have died in the line of duty.
WWJ’s Erin Vee spoke with Gary Lewandowski, who is one of the organizers of Sunday’s memorial in Mt. Clemens at the Fallen Heroes memorial on Main Street.
“It’s a short ceremony, but it’s a very humble ceremony,” Lewandowski said. “It’s something that we are dedicated, as the committee and the others that are involved in this, to make sure that these heroes, these first responders who gave their lives defending terrorism locally, are always remembered.”
The ceremony, in its 12th year, will happen on the grounds of the court house building at 3 p.m. Sunday.
The name of late Clinton Township Police Chief Fred Posavetz will be added to the memorial.
Another Fallen Heroes memorial is scheduled for the Oakland County complex in Pontiac at 7 p.m.
