DETROIT (WWJ) -- Police have found the car belonging to a veteran and member of the Metro Detroit Police and Fire Pipes and Drums band this week, but his bagpipes and gear are still missing.
Police reportedly found the vehicle belonging to Brian Leslie, a sergeant with the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office, about a mile and a half from where it was stolen last Saturday.
The car was missing a catalytic convertor and sustained some other damage, but the bagpipes were removed from the vehicle.
Detroit police say the theft happened outside the Gaelic League Irish American Club on Michigan Avenue, near Wabash Street in Corktown.
The victim’s Celtic bagpipes and bagpipe gear were inside the vehicle at the time of the theft, police said.
The Metro Detroit Police and Fire Bagpipes & Drums is an organization that honors police and firefighters killed in the line of duty by playing music at funeral services, free of charge.
Authorities are asking anyone who knows something about the theft to call the Detroit Police Department’s 3rd Precinct at 313-596-5300, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP (800-773-2587). You can remain anonymous.
