WASHTENAW COUNTY (WWJ) - A police officer investigating a traffic incident on Wednesday night was struck by another driver in Pittsfield Township, authorities confirmed.
The Pittsfield Township Police Department confirmed to WWJ that one officer was injured in a serious crash reported on Michigan Ave. between Moon and Old State just after 9 p.m. on Oct. 4.
"Officers were investigating a traffic related incident when an uninvolved car collided with the patrol cars that were on the side of the road with emergency lights activated," the department stated.
A male officer was hurt in the collision when his patrol car was struck and pushed into him as he stood on the passenger side of the vehicle.
The Saline Post reported that the officer had stopped a grey Ford Mustang that had allegedly been harassing the driver of a blue Jeep Wrangler. Police became aware of the incident when the Jeep driver called authorities and said the Mustang driver was following them and driving up on the should beside their vehicle as they traveled on Maple Road, near Travis Pointe.
An officer was able to intercept the Mustang, the Saline Post reported, and shortly after pulling the driver over, another vehicle driven by an older man experienced a medical issue and crashed into the parked cruiser.
So far, police had not confirmed the details procided by the Saline Post, but did tell WWJ that the officer was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released with minor injuries.
The condition of the driver that crashed into the patrol car remains unclear.
Police said additional details about the case will be released later on.
