(WWJ) There's another dangerous trend making the rounds on TikTok — and this one is Halloween-themed.

The viral vampire fangs challenge involves people using super glue or nail glue to stick phony pointy teeth to their own teeth --- then struggling to get them off.

Videos with the hashtag "vampire fangs" have been viewed tens of millions of times on the popular social media app in recent weeks. In once case, it took a makeup artist hours to get them out of her month.

Dearborn Dentist Dr. Zainab Mackie, who finds the trend alarming, says many types of glue, especially nail glue, can be toxic.

Also, she said it could permanently damage your tooth enamel.

"That's the whitest part of our tooth," Mackie told WWJ Newsradio 950's Sandra McNeill. "So if you remove that, one, your teeth will look more yellow; two, it's not going to protect your teeth anymore, so you become more sensitive."

"And because that second layer is softer, you're more to cavities," Mackie said. "Then once you're in that situation you're gonna need a filling, you might need a crown. And in really severe cases you might need a root canal."

You could even break a tooth, she warned.

If you've just gotta have the vamp look, Mackie says the safe choice is to use denture glue.

"You can also use ortho wax," she said. "That won't stay on all night, but it's good for pictures. And they're both safe and then can both be found at like any drug store."
