WARREN (WWJ) -- A man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Warren.

According to the Warren Police Department, the shooting happened at around 1:45 p.m. Friday, after officers responded to a domestic violence call at a home on Garbor Street, in the area of 11 Mile Rd. and Ryan Rd.

People at the scene told officers that a man was at the home, reportedly assaulting family members.

Officers on the scene encountered the man, who allegedly came out of the home armed with a handgun.

Acting Warren Police Commissioner Charles Rushton told WWJ's Luke Sloan that the suspect pointed the handgun at officers, and that's when they shot him.

"In defense of the officers, several rounds were fired," Rushton said.

Police said lifesaving measures were attempted on the man before he was taken to a hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

No officers were injured, police said, and there's no threat to the community.

Police said the investigation is in its early stages.
