LIVONIA (WWJ) - The orange barrels are gone, the lanes have opened up and traffic is flowing unhindered once again in both directions on I-275 in northern Wayne County, officials said.

All lanes of I-275 in each direction between 5 Mile Road and Sibley Road are now open, WWJ's Scott Ryan reported just after 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, as the majority of roadwork wrapped up for the winter.

According to Michigan Department of Transportation representative Diane Cross, crews having been removing all barrels and barrier walls on the stretch of freeway, in addition to installing temporary pavement markings in that area, including all ramps and at the I-94 and I-96/M-14 interchanges.

"While the majority of the work is completed, there will be winter work in the median and the shoulders," Cross added. "Crews will return in the spring for punch list work, including installing intelligent transportation system (ITS) infrastructure, emergency pull-off removals, epoxy overlays on bridges, restoration work, permanent pavement markings, etc."

The entire Revive275 project is expected to be completed by summer 2024.

The project is being hailed as a $281 million investment that has directly and indirectly supported 3,267 jobs in the region.

According to MDOT, the project was funded by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's Rebuilding Michigan program that helps rebuild state highways and bridges essential to the state's economy and carry the most traffic.

"The investment strategy is aimed at fixes that result in longer useful lives and improve the condition of the state's infrastructure," Cross stated.
