(WWJ) -- A road rage incident on the Mackinac Bridge ended with a Ludington man in handcuffs after firing his gun Saturday afternoon.

Michigan State Police say it all unfolded in the early afternoon hours Saturday when two vehicles were traveling along eastbound US-2 toward the bridge. Authorities say it appears to have begun due to lane usage, as the 65-year-old driver from Ludington said the other man would not let him merge on the highway.

Authorities say it happened a second time when the drivers were approaching the toll booths on I-75. After going through the booths, the other vehicle -- driven by a 63-year-old Williamsburg man -- merged in front of him, due to a lane closure.

That led to the Ludington man allegedly deliberately running into the other man's car. When the Williamsburg man got out of his vehicle to confront him, the Ludington man allegedly pulled out a gun, pointed it in the air and fired a single shot.

Troopers recovered a .40 caliber handgun and a 9mm handgun from the scene, along with one spent cartridge from the .40 caliber.

No injuries were reported.

The Ludington man was arrested and lodged in the Mackinac County Jail, awaiting arraignment.
