Man pleads guilty to killing ex-girlfriend as she left her shift as nurse at Detroit Receiving Hospital

DETROIT (WWJ) – Jamere Miller, the Detroit man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend as she left her shift as a nurse at a Detroit hospital in May, has pleaded guilty.

Miller, 36, agreed to a plea deal on Tuesday, pleading guilty to one count of second-degree murder with a sentencing agreement of 35-60 years in prison for the death of Patrice Wilson.

Shortly before 8 a.m. on May 13, officials say Miller, disguised with a woman's wig, hat and glasses, waited for Wilson, 29, outside Detroit Receiving Hospital on St. Antoine Street.

When she got into her car after her shift, Miller went to the back passenger side of the SUV and fired multiple shots, fatally wounding her. He then got in the driver's seat and fled the scene.

Wilson's body was found in the back of her SUV in Novi later that day. He turned himself in to Detroit police the next day.

Authorities say Wilson was "simply trying to live her life and break off a relationship that she knew was not good for her."

"Patrice Wilson, by all accounts, was a hard working woman, great mother, great family person and well respected in her job as a nurse at the Detroit Medical Center. She was simply trying to live her life, work hard and break off a relationship that she knew was not good for her," Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said at the time of Miller's arraignment in June.

Miller is set to be sentenced on Nov. 1. At the date of sentencing, charges of first-degree and felony murder will be dismissed, along with five counts of felony firearm and one count each of carjacking, armed robbery and felon in possession of a firearm.
