(WWJ) A sheriff's deputy was injured on the scene of an officer-involved shooting and struggle with a suspect in Ferndale Tuesday morning.

According Wayne County Sheriff's office, deputies responded at around 8:45 a.m. to a home, on E. Webster St. near Woodward Ave., after a man allegedly attempted to cut his GPS tether.

The man was at the window with deputies arrived, sheriff's office spokesman Ed Foxworth said, and the deputies determined that the 25-year-old Ferndale man was experiencing a mental health crisis.

When deputies entered the home, the man threatened to stab them with two knives. They used a Taser on the man, but when he kept coming at them, they shot him twice in the leg and stomach, according to Foxworth.

When deputies then tried to help the man, Foxworth said one of the man's knives "accidentally cut" one of the deputies.

That deputy was listed in stable condition, and will be OK, Foxworth said.

The man was reported last reported to be in stable at a local hospital after he was taken into custody.

He has not been publicly identified, and officials did not say why the man was on a tether.

Ferndale Police assisted at the scene, and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
