
(WWJ) – Wednesday was another day of disruption for thousands of Metro Detroit students, as classes were interrupted or canceled due to more threats of violence.
Threats at schools in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb Counties were evacuated, locked down or closed due to the threats.
Taylor police arrested a student after a student posted a message on social media Tuesday night threatening violence. Taylor High School, Taylor Virtual Learning Academy and the Taylor Career and Technical Center were all closed on Wednesday as police investigated.
Authorities have not released any details about the student.
South Lyon East High School was locked down after yet another threat was found in a school bathroom. It was the sixth threat the South Lyon district has seen since early October.
One student was arrested and charged in that incident. No other arrests have been made in the other cases.
Afternoon activities were reportedly canceled after the latest threat on Wednesday.
South Lake High School in St. Clair Shores and Novi Meadows School were also evacuated or locked down on Wednesday.
The spate of threats comes after schools in Ferndale were closed on Monday and locked down on Tuesday.
In response, Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard issued a warning to students across the county, saying all threats will be investigated and prosecuted.
Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido on Wednesday said threats against schools in the county have risen by 50%. He vowed to investigate and prosecute anyone who makes threats.
"You're gonna be charged, it's gonna have an impact on possibly going to college, possibly getting financial aid," he said. It's also going to be devastating for families and parents. In fact, local municipalities have taken the time now to change their ordinances to charge back the parents."
He also wants students to know there is a hotline to anonymously call in information about a threat, to avoid causing alarm and a school closure.
