JOYFIELD TWP. (WWJ) -- Two people were arrested by Michigan State Police on Sunday, after what started as a welfare check on the side of the road.
According to police, a trooper with the MSP Traverse City Post stopped to help when he spotted a disabled vehicle parked on the shoulder of Wallaker Road in Benzie County's Joyfield Township.
MSP said the trooper recognized the front-seat passenger, a 34-year-old Elberta resident, as a man who had a warrant out for his arrest.
While making the arrest, police said the trooper discovered that the man was in possession of "some unused drug paraphernalia."
The trooper then searched the vehicle, and allegedly found the following: a glass pipe with methamphetamine residue, a small foil wrapper containing meth, and some more meth in a multicolored container.
The driver, identified as 56-year-old Kingsley man, and the man with the warrant were taken into custody.
MSP said both men are facing a charge of possession of methamphetamine, which is a felony with a possible penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a $15,000 fine. Their names with were not immediately released.
