ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - While holiday-themed pop-up bars are creeping up around Metro Detroit this season, there's one in Royal Oak that's causing a stir for their theme modeled after a classic Christmas movie.
"Take a look around you, Ellen! We're at the threshold of hell!" Griswold Clark yells out during a memorable one-liner from "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" and now guests can also experience the fun and hilarity at Griswold's Hideaway that will take over the basement of newly-opened Bandit Tavern after Thanksgiving.
Although few details about the Christmas movie-themed bar have been released, the establishment said decorations paying homage to the Griswold family and their acquaintances will be put up throughout the tavern, which will also feature a special themed drink menu.
Bandit Tavern & Hideaway opened on Friday, Nov. 3 at the site of the former Jolly Pumpkin on 419 S. Main Street.
Guests who head upstairs will find fare from the building's precious inhabitants along with food and beverage options drawing inspiration from southern-style cooking.
Beer options from Jolly Pumpkin and North Peak Brewing Co. will be available to order.
The downstairs area, called "the Hideaway" and previously known as the nightclub Commune Lounge, will be used as a space for themed pop-up bars.
It will feature a dance floor, DJs, festive cocktails, VIP rooms with bottle service and a large private party area. It includes dancing, DJs, festive cocktails, VIP rooms with bottle service, and a large private party space.
"We're looking forward to sharing a new experience in Royal Oak built on southern and Midwest hospitality while providing an atmosphere that feels like a getaway," said Kelly VenderEyk, operating partner and general manager of Bandit.
