The city council voted unanimously Tuesday to spend $27,000 to buy 10 automated license plate reading cameras.
The new equipment will send real-time alerts to police when a stolen vehicle or a known wanted felony suspect's vehicle enters the jurisdiction.
Alerts will also be sent if a vehicle associated with a missing person is detected.
The new cameras will not be used for traffic enforcement and do not have facial recognition software.
