Downtown Romeo is inviting everyone to join them on Saturday to help set a world record.

Romeo is hosting an attempt to break the record for the “Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Witches” as part of their Witches & Warlocks: Return to Romeo event.

The current record in the Guinness World Record was set in Spain in 2013. They had a group of 1,607 people who “all dressed in a black hat and a black floor length dress, with a broom all gathered to perform an incantation to bring them luck for the Spanish Christmas lottery.”

The free Witches & Warlocks: Return to Romeo runs from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. There will be a vendor market, a “Thriller” dance competition and broom relays are among the fun people can expect.

The family-friendly event is free.

Romeo DDA Executive Director Kay Pochert said the event coincides with “Terror on Tillson Street.” The Victorian homes decorated with Halloween displays draw thousands of people each year. Pochert said visitors to Tillson Street can head over to Witches & Warlocks: Return to Romeo.

To be counted in the record, participants must be downtown from 4 p.m. until 4:10 p.m. Participants will need a black pointed hat, a black cloak or dress and a broomstick, which can either be real or a prop.

A drone will fly over to video the attempt, which will then be sent to Guinness.

Pochert said this is part of their bigger “Return to Romeo” initiative, which encourages people to experience all that downtown has to offer.

Pre-registration is encouraged. The link can be found here.
