DETROIT (WWJ) -- A 21-year-old man was officially charged in connection with a shocking act of vandalism at Café D'Mongo's, a beloved Detroit speakeasy.
Jaden Alex Geck, of Ira in St. Clair County, stands accused of malicious destruction of property between one-thousand and twenty-thousand dollars. If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison.
In a press release, Prosecutor Kym Worthy said that the public should be able to enjoy everything that southeastern Michigan has to offer, especially in a diverse city like Detroit.
"Café D'Mongo's is a place where people come from all over for an enjoyable experience," she said. "The alleged actions of this defendant are criminal and upset that balance."
The vandalism occurred just before 4 a.m. on Sunday and was caught on security camera. In the footage, a suspect -- believed to be Geck -- walks down Griswold St., stops in front of Café D'Mongo's, then picks up a patio chair and throws it through the front window.
Photos from the video footage were circulated, and Detroit Police arrested Geck on Thursday.
The defendant was given a $50,000 personal bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, May 24.
