A few short weeks ago metro Detroiters were being urged to stay indoors because the temperatures were dangerously low.

And then this week false spring arrived.

And what follows false spring? Booms in the sky. Meteorologists are warning that today's spectacular highs in the 60s will be followed by drizzle tonight and then thunderstorms throughout the day tomorrow.

Thursday's forecast calls for thundershowers most of the day in metro Detroit — and then cooler -- but dry -- temperatures for the weekend.

Thunderstorms are expected to begin at about 7 a.m. Thursday, continue all day, and then taper off in the evening.

But after that, it should be dry. High temperatures will be in the high 50s on Friday with partly sunny skies — and then dip down into the 40s for the weekend.

What comes next? If Michigan history is any indication, it's anyone's guess. But we do know that Fool's Spring is inevitably followed by Second Winter.
