(WWJ) – A man is hospitalized after a crash involving a semi truck driven by a Warren man near the Michigan-Indiana border in the midst of Wednesday’s icy weather conditions.

Michigan State Police officials say shortly before 4:30 p.m. a 48-year-old man from Michigan City, Indiana was driving along US 12 in Bertrand Township, just northwest of South Bend, when the truck driver pulled out in front of him.

The truck was turning off Bakertown Road when it pulled in front of the SUV, which went underneath the semi, as shown in pictures posted to the MSP Fifth District Twitter page.

The driver of the SUV was listed in critical condition, while the 62-year-old Warren man was uninjured.

MSP officials said it was unknown whether the drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash or if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.

Authorities did not say whether Wednesday's icy weather was a factor in the crash.

The crash scene cleared around 7:30 p.m., about three hours after it happened.
