DETROIT (WWJ) A water main break at the Detroit/Lincoln Park border prompts a possibly week-long road closure.
Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) officials said crews will close northbound Fort Street at Outer Drive on Saturday because of a water main break that appears to have washed dirt below the road.

“It looks like there’s a water main break underneath,” MDOT spokesperson Diane Cross said in a live interview on WWJ. “So while the road surface looks okay to drive on, that water main break has eroded the roadway.”

Cross said, after crews fix the water main, they will have to repair the roadway. Otherwise, she said it could become a “dangerous situation.”
“We’re afraid, if we get too much weight driving on that road surface without a lot of support underneath, it will collapse.”
Cross said the closure will extend four blocks as a precaution. Repairs could take up to a week.
