(WWJ) A Winter storm that hit southern lower Michigan this weekend dropped three to nine inches of snow on the ground and snarled traffic.
The most snow was reported in Ottawa and Kent counties, in west Michigan, where 9-10 inches of snow was reported by the National Weather Service.
In southeastern Michigan, snow totals were 6.5 inches in Williamston, west of Howell, and nearly 6 inches in Ann Arbor and Waterford. 4-5 inches was reported in Dearborn Heights, Berkley, Canton and Southfield. 3 inches were reported in Eastpointe and Novi.
AccuWeather forecasters had predicted 2-4 inches near Detroit and higher amounts to the north and west.
The snow started falling Saturday afternoon and continued until early Sunday morning. T
Travel on freeways and surface streets was slowed to a crawl by late Saturday night. Road crews were salting and plowing for hours starting late Saturday afternoon. Their work was continuing on Sunday morning.
More snow is expected Monday night into Tuesday morning.
