DETROIT (WWJ) -- Police in Detroit are asking for the public's help in finding a suspect in what they're calling "a targeted sexual assault" that left a woman in critical condition.

Police say a 63-year-old woman was found unconscious around 10 a.m. Sunday outside of a vacant church in the 4400 block of Joy Road between Dexter and Grand River on the city's west side.

The woman was found nearly naked by a witness who was walking down Joy Sunday morning when he heard her calling for help, according to a report from Fox 2 in Detroit.

The woman, who was last said to be in critical condition, was being treated for brain trauma and hypothermia.

Police have canvassed the area multiple times since Sunday but have not seen any signs of the suspect.

While authorities believe the woman was targeted, they do not believe the rest of the community is in danger.

Detroit Police Cmdr. Michael McGinnis pledged there will be "a relentless pursuit" for the suspect.

Anyone who knows anything about the crime or may have witnessed the attack is asked to call Detroit police at 313-596-1000.

Calls can also be made anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak-Up.
