DETROIT (WWJ) Michigan State Police (MSP) say a road rage incident led to a freeway shooting on I-94 near Midtown in Detroit.
According to MSP, the shooting happened on Sunday, July 13, around 6:00 p.m. on the eastbound side of the freeway at Trumbull. Detroit Regional Communications Center received calls of a felonious assault.
MSP said troopers arrived and found a bullet hole in the caller's vehicle. Their preliminary investigation revealed the caller, a 31-year-old Southfield man, was driving eastbound when he got into a road rage incident with the driver of a tan vehicle. He said he had exited to Trumbull when he heard a shot and felt a round of gunfire hit his car.
He pulled over as the suspect continued to drive, MSP said.
The caller described the suspect's vehicle as tan with tinted windows.
No injuries were reported.
Troopers closed the freeway for approximately two and a half hours.
“Once again we see a person using a handgun to try and settle a driving disagreement,” F/Lt. Mike Shaw said. “We are very fortunate that no one was hurt in this incident. If you are involved in a road rage incident, just ignore the other driver and try to create distance between the other vehicle and yourself. This investigation into this incident is continuing.”
