Families who want to apply for the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer or P-EBT program now have until June 15 to submit their application.

The deadline was today, June 8 but the Department of Children and Family Services has extended that application submission deadline to next Monday, June 15.

The P-EBT is like the SNAP benefits program except it is made available to families who have a child in grades pre-k through 12th grade, who are not receiving school meals because of school closures due to COVID-19.

In a media release, the DCFS also says there is a “slight delay in the timeline for mailed benefits for parents who applied between May 18 and May 25, during the program's first week of applications. While the vast majority of P-EBT cards for this first group were expected to arrive in Louisiana mailboxes by the first part of this week, DCFS has been notified by its contractor that recipients should expect a delay of several days. Updates will be provided as they become available.”

All public and private schools in Louisiana have been closed since March 16 due to the coronavirus crisis.
