The arraignment of former St. Tammany Sheriff Jack Strain has been pushed back to August 15 by a judge today.

The decision to delay came because Strain's lead attorney will be out of town on "previously scheduled travel."

Today, Judge Edward “Jimmy” Gaidry agreed to a request from Strain's attorney, Billy Gibbens, to delay the arraignment date until at least mid-July, according to the court clerk.

Strain was arrested on two counts of aggravated rape, two counts of aggravated incest, one count of indecent behavior with a juvenile and one count of sexual battery.  He was indicted by a grand jury in June.

If convicted Strain could face a mandatory life sentence
