Landrieu to Congress: 'Remove these Confederate symbols'

The man who led the charge to take down Confederate monuments in New Orleans is urging authorities to do the same thing all over the United States.

"We cannot continue to walk away from this truth," Former New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu said today.

Landrieu was testifying before the House Natural Resources subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands.

" We must remove these Confederate symbols that dirty the soil of our beloved country. Once that is done, we can better confront the racist systems that have divided us by design for generations and get us closer to that more perfect union we all aspire to be," he said.

Landrieu told the subcommittee that when he was mayor, he started this process.
