According to a release from the City of New Orleans Wednesday afternoon, roughly six inches of water fell during the morning deluge.

Afterward, City crews began clean up and that meant some vehicles still parked on sidwalks and neutral grounds were towed.

If your car was towed, you can pick it up at no charge from the city impound lot:  400 N. Claiborne Avenue. The lot hours are 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. and can be reached by phone at 504-658-8284.

If some tree branches, or an entire tree, came down during the rain, the Department of Parks and Parkways is responding to tree emergencies.

Call 3-1-1 to report downed trees or limbs in the street.

When it comes to storm drains or catch basins around your home, residents are encouraged to clear debris.

Sanitation collection will occur as regularly scheduled:

  • During the second collection this week, the Sanitation Department will pick up a limited amount of bulky waste including debris, carpeting and other large items. Residents should call 3-1-1 if they have between 6 and 16 bundles or bags of debris or larger bulky waste.
  • Tree limbs, branches and carpeting must be cut in four feet (or less) lengths and bundled. Tree limbs cannot be more than 12 inches in diameter and weigh less than 50 pounds.
  • Leaves and loose debris should be bagged and the bags secured, again, there is a 50 pound weight limit.

If your home has sustained flood damage and you need assistance with mucking and gutting, call 3-1-1. If you are dealing with landlord-tenant issues related to flooding, call Southeast Louisiana Legal Services at 504-529-1000.

If you need to file a damage claim:  First, document any damage to vehicles, homes, or businesses with photos.
