Not good enough: moderate mask compliance in French Quarter could skew numbers

The French Quarter is crowded again, and that's a good thing for the local businesses and people who make their living on the money visitors have to spend.

The bad news: There's only moderate mask use going on among the revelers on the Labor Day Holiday.

“I’m happy, because they’re doing it everywhere else,” said New Orleans local John Moore told WWL-TV.

A tourist from Texas, visiting the Quarter for the Sunday afternoon relaxation with food and drink commented:

“It’s shocking. It’s amazing because the last time I came out here was maybe about a month ago and it was like a ghost town,” said New Orleans local Ms. Jones-Platenburg told the station.  “I guess if we listen, wear your mask and practice social distancing we’ll be alright, and wash your hands."

Despite a warning Friday from White House coronavirus task force member Dr. Deborah Birx, to follow the state's phase two guidelines, crowds, including many people not wearing masks, go against that guidance.
