A Norovirus outbreak in Lake Charles has sickened as many as 200 people and lead to an outbreak of the virus in two southwestern Louisiana parishes.
The outbreak appears to be traced to the L'Auberge Casino on Lake Charles and victims became sick following a Mardi Gras ball.
WWL-TV's Katie Moore reports the virus is on the move.
"The outbreak appears to be spreading in Calcasieu and Vernon Parishes. We don't know how many people reported illnesses in the state so far."
A press release from Dr. Frank Welch, Immunization Director with Louisiana Department of Health says, “Some people can continue to spread norovirus for up to three weeks. There are no medications to prevent norovirus, which is why frequent handwashing is your best protection,"
The CDC says Norovirus is symptoms can develop 12-24 hours after exposure.
Norovirus is a highly contagious gastrointestinal illness that causes vomiting and diarrhea and runs its course after about three days.
Norovirus is spread from contaninmated food and surfaces and is NOT associated with the Wuhan Coronavirus.
