One man critically injured in fire at store in the Irish Channel

A store in the Irish Channel suffered heavy damage from a fire, critically injuring a man.

The fire broke out at St. Vincent's Market at the corner of Constance and First Street around 8:52 p.m.

A primary search of the exterior and a rear living space was made as firefighters fought to gain entry into the building.

An adult male was found in a rear hallway that led to the living space suffering from varying degrees of burns and apparent smoke inhalation. He was treated by NOFD personnel before being transported to an area hospital by New Orleans Emergency Medical Services (NOEMS) in critical condition.

A second-alarm was requested immediately upon arrival. NOFD entry into the building was slightly delayed as firefighters worked to avoid downed power lines and to remove iron security bars from the doors and windows.

There were no other injuries reported and the cause of the fire is currently being investigated by the NOFD and Louisiana State Fire Marshal personnel. The New Orleans Police Department and Entergy also assisted with the mitigation of this incident.
