It's Super Bowl Week! While Miami gets ready to host one of the most-watched events in the world, the Superdome is four years away from hosting Super Bowl LVIII in 2024.Workers are getting ready to begin making some major changes in the 45-year-old stadium. Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District Chairman Kyle France says this phase is mostly behind the scenes stuff."There's some back-of-house issues that we're taking care of that's out of the public eye," the Superdome commission chairman said, but he said there will be a few changes people will see when football returns in August."Escalators and stairwells," said France. "I think from the public view, that's probably what they'll see."It will take a total of four football off-seasons in all, not just to replace the ramps with escalators, but also create new atria in the concourses, build new field-level suites, and other amenities to keep the Superdome as modern today as it was when it opened in 1975.The $450 million project is also seen as vital to keeping the Saints playing in New Orleans, with talks aimed at extending their lease through 2035, with a possible extension to 2055.
