LSU vs. Alabama game status uncertain after COVID-19 outbreak

LSU head coach Ed Orgeron said Monday that some players have tested positive for COVID-19 and that several others are quarantined due to contact tracing.

Multiple media outlets are reporting that due to the outbreak, LSU’s Saturday matchup with No. 1 Alabama might not take place as scheduled.

The SEC requires teams to have 53 scholarship players available on game day and Sports Illustrated’s Ross Dellenger reported that LSU is “dangerously close” to that mark.

Orgeron said Monday that he wouldn’t comment on the team’s COVID-19 numbers, calling it a fluid situation but said he expected to know more Wednesday.

If LSU’s game against Alabama doesn’t take place as scheduled, it will be the second contest for the Tigers that will have been affected by the Coronavirus.

LSU’s matchup with Florida which was originally scheduled for Oct. 17 was postponed and rescheduled for December due to positive COVID-19 tests within Florida’s program.
