The initial injury report for Week 4 was extensive, but we saw a number of positive signs on Thursday. That comes with the obvious exception: The player we were told to expect out there … was not.

Both Saints head coach Dennis Allen and Jameis Winston himself said they expected the starting QB to be back on the practice field after a rest day on Wednesday. That didn’t happen. Andy Dalton again took first-team reps, with Taysom Hill working in a backup capacity.

Offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr. explained that the training staff advised rest would be the best decision as the quarterback works through back and ankle issues that have dogged him for the past two weeks.

The other big “did not practice” is WR Michael Thomas who is dealing with a foot injury and missed his second consecutive day.

On a positive note: DE Marcus Davenport (shoulder), WR Tre’Quan Smith and S J.T. Gray went from limited to full. Also, WR Jarvis Landry (ankle), OT Ryan Ramczyk (rest) and G Andrus Peat (concussion) were limited after not practicing the other day.

Limited for a second straight day were WR Deonte Harty (foot), CB Paulson Adebo (ankle), RB Alvin Kamara (rib), S Marcus Maye (rib) and TE Taysom Hill (rib).

Friday will be the final injury update for Sunday’s matchup vs. Minnesota and will have the game status listed for all the players. There will be more than a few interesting names to watch for when that list is made public.
