Now that life is inching back to normal, so is our willingness to open our wallets. 47% of people polled by Charles Schwab say they’re ready to get back to their spending levels before the pandemic. What’s more, 24% say they want to splurge and make up for lost time. No. 1 on the spending list: traveling, followed by socializing, taking an extended vacation, dining out at upmarket restaurant or throwing a party. 54% surveyed reported having gone out to eat over the past week.

In its latest technical instructions for cruising resumption, the CDC says cruise ships should prepare for surprise inspections.  It notes that "Inspections of cruise ships during simulated and restricted passenger voyages... may be conducted…..with or without prior notification to the cruise ship operator."   A spokeswoman for the cruise trade group says "there is still a lot of work to do in order to achieve the goal of sailing from U.S. ports this summer."
