Mayor LaToya Cantrell is once again fighting back against reports that say her security guards clocked working hours even when they weren't near her. Those reports come amid allegations that she's sleeping with one of those security officers.
Now, Cantrell is hitting back.
"(Executive protection): they're working whether they are with me or not," Cantrell told members of the media during a briefing on Wednesday. "They're doing the job for me and of the people of the city of New Orleans, and that is aligned with the executive protection guidelines in how they serve me in this capacity."
Cantrell did not say what exactly her guards are doing when they are clocking hours when they're not with her or how their duties are aligned with city guidelines.
"I know exactly what they're doing," Cantrell said. "They know what they're doing, as well as the superintendent, as well."
Cantrell said the reports looking into her guards' timesheets and her activities at the Pontalba Apartment put her and her guards' lives in danger.
"The constant focus on my executive protection, one, is unfair, and it also puts not only me in jeopardy, it puts my protection team, as well, meaning their safety in jeopardy, and that's something I will not stand for--cannot tolerate--and it's unfair," Cantrell said.
