
One person is dead and a trio of homes off Johnson and Third Streets in the Hoffman Triangle neighborhood of Central City went up in flames this afternoon.
New Orleans Fire Department units arrived just after 1pm this afternoon to find a single family home on the corner of Johnson and Third fully engulfed in flames with a duplex next door also on fire.
Heavy black smoke poured into the air as NOFD fought the flames from a defensive posture, to keep the fire from spreading to additional buildings.
Both the residences were occupied, with a female was transported to a hospital with serious injuries, however she succumbed to her injuries.
Another person, who escaped the flames, still unaccounted for.
Additional duplexes on Third Street also suffered damage from intense heat of the fire as well as some structural damage.
The initial home on Johnson and Third and the duplex next door were total losses.
In all 21 fire units and 55 fire fighters fought the blaze.
The fire is currently under investigation.
