Update: Thibodaux Chief of Police Bryan Zeringue announced that an arrest has been made. A 15-year-old juvenile male was taken into custody and charged with second degree murder.
Thibodaux Police continue to search for the gunman who fatally shot 15-year-old Jarian Cole from Assumption Parish on Saturday afternoon. Lt. Clint Dempster says Cole was shot multiple times in the back inside a home.
“We transported the subject to Thibodaux Regional Health System and ultimately he was flown out via helicopter to University Medical Center in New Orleans in which he actually passed away in the helicopter,” Dempster said.
Dempster says detectives are working around the clock searching for the shooter.
“Definitely reaching out to the public and asking for any assistance possible and any information they can come forward with,” Dempster said.
Dempster would not provide details on why Cole was in Thibodaux. He says it’s a city that’s only had a few murders over the years.
“It’s obviously heart breaking not only for the community, for the police department, for the officers, who have to handle it, and of course the victim’s family,” Dempster said.
