A search crew onboard a 45-foot Response Boat from the Coast Guard station in Grand Isle attempts to search for survivors inside the capsized Seacor Power.
Meanwhile, Coast Guard divers plan to search inside the vessel for the 12 people still missing when the liftboat capsized south of Port Fourchon Tuesday.
On Thursday, Coast Guard searchers attempted to throw a hammer tied to a rope at the partially-submerged liftboat’s hull in an effort to make contact with any survivors possibly trapped inside. So far, no one inside the hull responded to the hammer bangs on the hull.
Today, Coast Guard divers will attempt to enter the vessel. “The ultimate goal of the dive operation is to see if they can gain access to the vessel,” said Coast Guard Petty Officer Carlos Galarza. “But based on the weather conditions, the sea conditions, and the fact they can only conduct dive operations during daylight hours; that will impact if they can gain access to the vessel.”
Six people were rescued from the water, one body also pulled from the water was identified as David Ledet. An investigation is ongoing as to why the liftboat was operating in conditions that included 90 mile-per-hour winds and nine-foot seas.
