Mike Yenni, former Jefferson Parish President who ended a one-term run in disgrace due to a sexting scandal that involved a 17yo boy, will return back to public service as Deputy Registrar of Voters.
This comes after the Registrar, Dennis Dimarco, and the current council had a public back and forth regarding Yenni's hire that ended with Dimarco continuing with the move.
Yenni served one term as Parish President, but did not run for reelection after the scandal broke.
Now, council member at large, Scott Walker acknowledges there's nothing the council can do about Yenni taking the job.
“The council has no control or purview over this.”
The council received a letter from Dimarco on his final decision.
In it he says he didn’t want to change his decision and have it appear it came from outside pressure.
But, Walker sees the move as a stain on the parish nonetheless.
“I’ve haven’t gotten one email in support of the Registrar’s hire. I think it’s a bad idea; bad for Jefferson Parish and puts a black mark on Dimarco’s twenty-six year history in the office.”
