The driver killed in a school bus crash was traveling at a high rate of speed and ran a red light says New Orleans Police Department investigators. The crash happened Monday at around 9:17 a.m.
According to an initial NOPD report, the school bus driver was “traveling southbound on Interstate 510 when she proceeded to the intersection and was struck by the driver of a white Infiniti traveling westbound on Chef Menteur Highway at a high rate of speed.”
Police say the driver disregarded a red light when they crashed into the school bus. EMS pronounced the driver of the Infiniti dead on the scene.
The school bus driver was transported to the hospital by EMS, where she is currently listed in stable condition.
No students were on the bus during the time of this incident.
The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine the official cause of death and release the victim's name, after completing an autopsy.
