Police say a feud between former brothers-in-law led to a deadly shooting at a Kenner apartment complex, and one of those men is now facing a murder charge.
According to Kenner Police Captain Michael Cunningham, the shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. Sunday on Chateau Boulevard near Tavel Drive.
Cunningham says Warren Smith and the victim both lived at the same apartment complex and had been involved in a years-long feud that culminated with Sunday night's shooting. According to Cunningham, the victim walked across the parking lot and confronted Smith at Smith's apartment. That's when, Cunningham said, Smith shot the victim, who then ran across the parking lot to his apartment. Cunningham says Smith followed the victim, shot him again, and then drove away from the apartment complex.
The victim later died at a hospital.
Kenner police used its Flock cameras and database to track Smith to Baton Rouge, where East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff's deputies arrested him shortly before midnight.
Smith, 33, is now in jail on a second-degree murder charge.
