French Quarter homeowner shoots and kills intruder who ‘lunged’ says NOPD

A Dauphine Street homeowner fatally shoots an intruder after they allegedly ‘lunged’ at the resident says a New Orleans Police report.

The shooting happened at about 7:07 p.m. Thursday night in the 500 block of Dauphine Street near the intersection with St. Louis.


The report says, “The homeowner heard banging on the door of the residence, retrieved a gun, and opened the door. The victim entered the residence and lunged towards the homeowner, who shot the victim.”

Authorities say the intruder died on the scene. As The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate reports, the homeowner will not face charges for the shooting. Police have not released the identities of either the homeowner or the victim.
