The final Orleans Parish Jail escapee to be caught will soon be back in Louisiana.
Derrick Groves waived extradition from Atlanta to New Orleans today. That decision came about 24 hours after authorities tracked Groves down to a home in Atlanta and arrested him after a brief standoff.
Groves was one of 10 men who escaped form the Orleans Parish Justice Center on May 16. He was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison for a fatal shooting at a block party in 2024.
