Hinkley wins Plaquemines Parish President runoff

Keith Hinkley will become the new president of Plaquemines Parish at the start of 2023.

Hinkley, an Army veteran, roofing company owner, and former two-term parish councilman beat current councilman and former parish president Benny Roussell in Saturday’s runoff. Hinkley won with 54 percent of the vote, beating Roussell by a little more than 400 votes.

Hinkley will succeed Kirk Lepine, who finished third in the November primary.

Three parish council races were also decided Saturday.

Patty McCarty beat Dustin Galle by a 58-42 margin to win the District 5 parish council seat. Lloyd “Ronnie” Newsom, Jr., beat Stacey Mattison by a 57-43 margin to win the District 6 council runoff. Mitch Jurisich, Jr., beat Bartol John Taliancich, Jr., by a 57-43 margin to claim the District 8 council seat.
