Yesterday, Paul LaGrange, host of WWL's Home Improvement Show expressed that the type of snow falling likely wasn't going to be an issue in terms of weight on your roof. It was light, powdery, and posed little danger.
But today is a new day, and the nature of that snow will change.
Basically, today, the sunlight on the powdery snow will cause it to melt, but the sub-freezing temperatures will turn that melted snow to ice, which Lagrange says is "3.5 to 4 times heavier than powdery snow."
Essentially, this could put lots of pressure on your roof and cause damages. So how can you avoid this?
LaGrange says, "What I've been doing is going around the perimeter of my house and removing the snow at the bottom of the bottom 2-3 feet around the outer perimeter. Also, any snow in my gutters, I'm taking it out."
He explains the importance of this, and how to do so safely. We also have a great discussion at the beggining of our interview about caring for your pipes and how to assess damages as we emerge out of this deep freeze.
