For the first time, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry is addressing President Donald Trump's tariffs. Landry gave his full support.

"I think the direction the President is making is the right one," Landry said on Tuesday while announcing a $4 billion low-carbon ammonia plant set to be built in Ascension Parish. "The President's view is that in doing reciprocal tariffs, we will finally start having what I consider fair trade."

Governor Landry thanked the representatives of JERA and Mitsui & Co., the two Japanese companies partnering to build the plant, for choosing to build their facility in the Pelican State. That plant will be located in the same industrial park as the new Hyundai plant announced last month.

Landry says Trump's tariffs are already benefiting the state of Louisiana. He also believes the import taxes will attract similar projects to the Pelican State.

"Within a span of three weeks, Louisiana has been host to an investment from Asia, and both of these investments are key indicators," Landry said.

A representative from Hyundai said their plans to build a plant in Louisiana started long before the presidential election and before President Trump announced his tariffs.
