Ole Miss head football coach Lane Kiffin was grilled by reporters on Wednesday about his future during the SEC football coaches weekly media teleconference, but Kiffin didn’t provide any new insight.
Kiffin was asked if Rebels athletics director Keith Carter has given him an ultimatum to decide on where he plans to coach next season.
“Keith and I have a great relationship, we communicate daily on a lot of things, and I love it here,” Kiffin said. “And it’s been amazing and we are in this season that’s the greatest run in the history of Ole Miss at this point.”
The Rebels are 10-1 and nearly a lock to make the College Football Playoffs.
But the speculation over Kiffin’s future at Ole Miss has been the talk of college football.
The rumors really began to swirl after Kiffin’s ex-wife, Layla Kiffin, visited Gainesville and Baton Rouge this week as Florida and LSU have targeted Kiffin as their top target to be their next head coach.
There have been reports Ole Miss does not want Kiffin coaching the team in the playoffs if he’s planning on leaving. So, he was asked will he coach in the Egg Bowl against Mississippi State on November 28.
“Why would I not expect to coach next week? I expected to coach against Florida too, so I don’t even understand the question, how I would not be able to coach next week, why would I be at work,” Kiffin said.
The early signing period for recruits is in the first week of December, so programs that have vacancies at head coach are pushing to have a head coach in place before December 3rd.
Kiffin was asked if he would take another job before the postseason began on December 19th.
“I’m not speaking about other jobs,” Kiffin said.
The Advocate’s Wilson Alexander asked Kiffin what his family learned on their trips to Baton Rouge and Gainesville.
“I will not comment on other jobs,” Kiffin said.
Kiffin would not be asked about other jobs if he made commitment to Ole Miss, which he hasn’t done yet.
