A New Orleans man is looking at kidnapping and battery charges after his arrest Friday, for a crime that caught authorities attention in LaPlace on Tuesday.
"On Tuesday May 28, at approximately 3:00 AM, St. John Parish Sheriff's Office received a call about a female lying in the roadway in the 2800 block of Airline Hwy in LaPlace," the sheriff's office states. "When deputies arrived on scene, they observed the female had multiple injuries and bruising to her body."
The woman said she had been forced out of her vehicle while traveling in LaPlace, and her eight-month-old son was still in the vehicle as the perpetrator drove off.
"With the use of cameras in the area, a suspect vehicle was located. Tuesday evening, St. John detectives received a call from NOPD stating the kidnapped baby had been located and was in good health," said the sheriff's office. "Through their investigation, detectives gathered camera footage, witness statements, and other information; detectives identified Marquise Dunn, 21, of New Orleans as the suspect in their case. Based on the investigation, a warrant was obtained for Dunn's arrest."
Detectives took Dunn into custody on Friday on one count of simple kidnapping and one count second degree battery.
