Locals are watching the forecast for Isaias hoping for a near-miss or better, but is there anything behind Isaias we should be concerned about?

National Weather Service forecast Megan Williams says gulf hurricanes this late in the season are not unprecedented.

"You can always have hurricane until we get to November, so it's always a possibility," she said. "And we've seen late-season storms before: 2020 with Zeta."

However, Williams says the long-range tropical outlook right now shows nothing in the gulf.

"In terms of the outlook for the next few weeks, probably not going to expect too much tropical activity based on what we're looking at," said Williams.

And even with sea surface temperatures in the gulf warmer than normal, El Niño-fueled wind shear will help moderate storm formation.
