LCMC Health will soon take over three Tulane hospitals.

Under a proposed partnership between Tulane University and LCMC Health, LCMC will acquire Tulane Medical Center, Lakeview Regional Medical Center, and Tulane Lakeside Hospital from HCA Healthcare. According to our partners at NOLA.com, the deal is worth $150 million and will move the Tulane hospitals from a for-profit national parent company’s control and into the portfolio of a locally-owned non-profit organization.

According to a joint press release issued by Tulane and LCMC Health, all employees at the three hospitals will continue to have jobs under the proposed partnership.

Officials from both Tulane and LCMC say the deal will create about $600 million commitment to downtown New Orleans, including new construction and enhancements. Those improvements will come as the majority of services provided at Tulane Medical Center are shifted to East Jefferson General Hospital and University Medical Center. Tulane and LCMC officials say UMC will provide expanded clinical services to patients after the partnership is consummated.

“LCMC Health and Tulane University have shared values and a vision to partner to bring the best of community healthcare and academic medicine to all those we serve,” Craig Feirn, LCMC Health chief executive officer said in a news release. “With this transformational partnership, we can build on our strong history of collaboration with our academic partners, Tulane University and Louisiana State University, to do more for our patients, communities, and region together than would be possible as separate organizations.”

“Academic medical centers provide the most complex and high-quality care and are the birthplace of new treatments and technologies,” Tulane President Michael A. Fitts said in the same release. “Joining with LCMC Health will help drive clinical, educational, and economic innovation and growth that improves the quality of life across our entire region.”

Tulane and LCMC anticipate the deal being finalized later this year or early next year after state government officials complete their review of the proposed deal.
