It’s no secret that the housing insurance situation in Louisiana is quickly becoming untenable for many residents in terms of affordability.

To that end, a quartet of new bills are headed to Gov. Jeff Landry’s desk after working their way through the state legislature. But will they help bring rates down to reasonable levels?

Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple joined WWL’s Tommy Tucker to discuss what these four new pieces of legislation will hope to accomplish.

“I worked in this industry for over 20 years, and I did a lot of different things in this industry. And it is complex,” Temple acknowledged when discussing the process for trying to solve the riddle of enticing insurance companies to provide lower rates for Louisianians.

Temple added that one of his goals now that these bills have made it out of the legislature, he hopes to help educate the residents of the state on the inner workings of the insurance industry.

“As I start to interface with the public and do more, that's something we talked about internally,” he said. “We’re going to start doing videos and just, you know, maybe 30, 60, you know, two minute clips onto some insurance basics… Like I said earlier, it is a very complex industry.”
